A modern-day story about finding fortune in the world of West Texas oil rigs
Watch writer/director Taylor Sheridan’s most popular movies and TV series on IMDb, sorted by user rating. A landman, at least one who works in the petroleum industry, will act as a middleman between the exploration companies and the landowners. Typically, a land manager’s job is to negotiate and enter into contracts with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent.

Essentially, they manage the land and secure the leases so they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads and worker housing (man camps), oversee the assembly of excavation machinery, and the drilling of the well site itself, especially in remote locations. They are also part fixer, problem solver, and mediator.
I’m sure you’ll find out what the visual production is
Landman is my first Taylor Sheridan series, so I don’t have the expectations one would seem to have as a Yellowstone fan. The main plot so far is engaging and exciting without being too far-fetched. There are a few subplots that run well through the episodes, but perhaps one of them detracts from the overall quality of the series.
The cast describe their characters well
The direction and environment design is a delight. It would be interesting to hear the opinion of people who work in the industry on how realistic the field scenes are. Billy Bob Thornton is exemplary and leads the show really well.
